Finding Your Dream Nursing Job In The UK

Britain is a hot destination for jobs in the healthcare industry. Many prospective candidates from across the world resort to the country to accomplish their dream job. The country is currently facing a crisis in placement of nurses with thousands of vacancies left open. Agencies and international recruiters can help you reach the country and work in the healthcare industry or a hospital after registering with their nursing regulatory body. Alternatively, if you choose to study in the country, you can achieve your dream job through the UK nursing agencies. If not for the NHS (National Health Service), you can work for the agencies and obtain work at the best pay rates.

The Pre-Requisites   Those hailing from non-EU countries, including Australia should take up the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam to find a nursing placement in the UK. It is easy for the Australians as English is their first language. In addition to a good IELTS score and relevant qualification, the candidate must be registered with the nursing regulatory body of the home country. This, along with at least 12 months of clinical experience would make you eligible to apply for a prospective job in the UK.

The NMC Decision   It does not matter which country you belong to, you need to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) to achieve a nursing placement in the UK. International candidates need to wait a little longer once they have applied for registration in the country. Once applied, the documents undergo through verification by the NMC. The entire process might take three months or more depending upon the accuracy of your documents and relevance of your training and skills compared to the UK level of education. In case the level of education does not meet the standards, the candidate's application will be rejected. There might be instances wherein the candidate's level of experience does not match up with the skills applicable in the UK. In such a case, the NMC sends a letter demanding the candidate to undertake a Supervised Practice that lasts between 3 to 6 months. Upon completion of this, the experience will be analyzed and taken into consideration for a job in the country.

Obtaining Work Permit   Once you have the NMC approving your education and skills, you can apply for a work permit or go to the country on a working holiday visa. You can apply for jobs and obtain a work permit from a hospital or a healthcare firm, making you eligible to work in the country. Owing to the increase in demand for nurses, there are high chances of achieving sponsorship for nurses in Britain, Northern Ireland and Wales. However, you will be required to serve the employer for at least a year following the work permit processing. Approaching any international placement agency in Australia can help you find more details on the process.
